Sundance Now is an over-the-top subscription video on demand service featuring award-winning independent films, documentaries, and scripted series owned and operated by American cable television network AMC.
Distribution
Sundance Now began as Sundance Now Doc Club in 2014.[1] as a streaming website dedicated solely to documentaries. The site rebranded as Sundance Now in 2015 and expanded its library to include narrative feature films and series. By October 2016, Sundance Now had expanded to Canada[2], the United Kingdom, and Ireland and by 2017 to Germany and Austria[3]
Sundance Now is available on mobile devices, Apple TV, Roku, Chromecast, Xbox One as well as by monthly subscription via Amazon Video.
Content
Sundance Now offers a distinct collection of curated films, documentaries, exclusive series, and originals.
In October of 2016, Sundance Now began carving out windows of exclusivity for series and films beginning with the French thriller The Bureau. Season 4 of The Bureau will be released in late 2018.[4]
Sundance Now also produces original content. Their first straight-to-series order This Close premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.[5] The six-part comedy-drama earned notability for being the first television series written, created by, and starring deaf artists.[6] As of April 2018, the series had been greenlit for a second season.[7]
In July 2018, Sundance Now announced that they were developing original podcasts.[8] Their first series, a scripted crime drama titled Exeter, will be released in late 2018.
All content is available to subscribers ad-free.
