Sophia Bartholomew

Sophia Bartholomew (born 1987) is a Canadian interdisciplinary artist who frequently works in performance, language, and other time-based media.[1]

Biography

Bartholomew was born in Toronto, Ontario. She completed her BFA at the University of British Columbia in 2012.[2] She is currently based in Fredericton, New Brunswick.[3] Bartholomew was the Associate Director of Connexion Artist-run Centre[4][5] from 2012 until 2015, and has publishing writing with Untitled Art Society, Canadian Art online, and cmagazine.[6] Along with co-writer Emma Hicks, Bartholomew has published Trois Chapitres, a three chapter bilingual publication for the Galérie Louise-et-Reuben-Cohen, with French language texts edited by Madeleine Blanchard.[7] Prior to that, Bartholomew published I had a dream last night and you were there in 2015 as a Loose leaf publication for the exhibition Frontier at Sometimes art space.[8]

Face Machine, 2016

Face Machine is a short film by Sophia Bartholomew and Penelope Stevens (of the Fredericton rock trio, Motherhood)[9] created for a Super8 film festival at Struts Gallery & Faucet Media Arts Centre located in Sackville, New Brunswick in July 2016.[10]

Ultimate Workout Video, 2016

Ultimate Workout Video[11] is an eight-minute film that uses video-footage from a three-hour-long performance Bartholomew created for The Mountain Standard Time Performative Art Festival in Calgary, Alberta.[12] This video curation was done by Coral Short for the GEGEN OLYMPICS[13] and Künstlerhaus Bethanien[14] in Berlin, Germany.[15]

The Resolute Parka, 2013

The Resolute Parka is a sculpture and gallery space by Sophia Bartholomew. Transformed into a residency and artistic arena, Bartholomew's parka has been lent to many different creative endeavors. In 2013, Bartholomew herself worked with the Parka as part of the Banff Centre residency in Banff, Alberta.[16]
