Simon Manchipp (born 7 November 1971) is a British designer and brand consultant. In 2005 he founded design studio SomeOne in London, UK with David Law and Gary Holt.

Biography

After graduating from Central St. Martins School of Art, London, Manchipp worked as a designer and consultant for Identica and HHCL+P where he founded his first design company with David Law & Laura Hussey called NoOne.

In 2005 he set up SomeOne and went on to advise and create brands for clients including Cancer Research UK,[1] Eurostar,[2] London 2012 Olympic Games.[3] As well as creating visual identities for a range of clients, Manchipp was on the Executive Board of D&AD[4] and was visiting assessor for 3 years at London's St. Martin's School of Art.

In addition Manchipp writes for design journals, judges design competitions[5] and lectures[6] worldwide as far afield as India, China,[7] USA on branding,[8] identity issues[9] and design history.

The Drum Magazine's survey of the top 100 most influential UK designers[10] selected him as the 13th most notable British Designer in 2014, and in 2015 The Drum named SomeOne as one of the UK's top 10 Elite Creative Companies.

Design Week described Manchipp & SomeOne: "The Someone team appears to have its finger on the pulse of branding. Whether or not you agree with Simon Manchipp's assertion that the logo is dead, for example, you have to admire him for voicing it. More pertinent, perhaps, is his observation that brand communication now is more about 'chatting' than 'broadcasting'."[11]

Manchipp was a board level trustee for D&AD[12] between 2012—2014. He was an External Examiner for St. Martin's School of Art, London 2011—2014.[13] and an Honorary Professor at The Cass, London 2015.
