Shim Jae-chul

Shim Jae-chul (Korean: 심재철, born 18 January 1958) is a journalist and politician of South Korea, who is currently the First Deputy Speaker of the Parliament. He is also one of the conservative politicians born at Honam.

Biography

Born at Gwangju, he was once as an activist during Gwangju Uprising in 1980. He later worked as a journalist of MBC in late 1980s and early 1990s. After that, he officially entered to New Korea Party, following the recommendation from the ex-president Kim Young-sam, in 1996.

In 2016, he was elected as the First Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, along with Park Joo-sun as the Second.[1] During the impeachment of the president Park Geun-hye, he agreed for it. Therefore, he was considered to enter to Bareun Party, although it was never ever happened.

Controversy

Human rights violation

He was formerly one of the criminals who was convicted as human rights violation during the early 1980s. Originally, he was an activist against Chun Doo-hwan, but he declared to disorganise the protest.[2] This decision was automatically led to a massacre.[2]

After that, he tortured lots of activists "for democracy". Ryu Shi-min was one of the victims caused by him.[2]

Inappropriate behaviours

In 2013, a scene was caught that he was looking a nudity photo using his own mobile phone.[3] At first, he denied it, although later it was proven as the truth.[3]

Just after a year, he was involved into a controversy when he sent a Kakao Talk message that insults the bereaved of Sewol sinking.[4]

Rebellion issues

On 28 November 2017, he declared that he will report the president Moon Jae-in along with his secretaries as "rebellion".[5] This was criticised by many citizens, especially from pro-governments.[6]
