Cheryl "Sherri" A. Lydon (born February 21, 1962)[1] is an American attorney who serves as the United States Attorney for the District of South Carolina. She is the first woman appointed by a president to serve as U.S. Attorney for South Carolina. Prior to becoming a U.S. Attorney, Lydon founded the Lydon Law Firm, which specializes in white-collar criminal defense, and public corruption and health care fraud cases.

Education

Lydon earned her Bachelor of Arts from Clemson University and her Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law.[2]

Lydon began her legal career at Nexsen Pruet Jacobs and Pollard. Three years later, she became an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of South Carolina. As a federal prosecutor, she carried a diverse docket, including public corruption, RICO, drug, and fraud cases.[2]

U.S. Attorney

On April 10, 2018, President Trump announced his intent to nominate Lydon to serve as a United States Attorney of South Carolina.[2] On April 12, 2018, her nomination was sent to the Senate.[3] On May 10, 2018, her nomination was reported out of committee by a voice vote.[4] On May 22, 2018, the Senate confirmed her nomination by voice vote.[5] She was sworn into office on May 24, 2018.

Lydon is the first female U.S. Attorney for South Carolina to be appointed by a president.[6][7]
