Sembaruthi or Chembaruthi (Tamil: செம்பருத்தி) (English: Hibiscus) is a 2017 Tamil-language romance Family soap opera starring Karthik Raj, Shabana Shajahan and Priya Raman. The plot of the story is taken from Muddha Mandaram serial, a leading serial in Zee Telugu. It is currently airing on Zee Tamil every Monday to Friday at 9:00 PM (IST). Later extended up to Sunday. It is currently the number 1 serial on Zee Tamil along with Yaaradi Nee Mohini, with a great TRP ratings stated by BARCIndia.

The chemistry between the lead pairs (Karthik Raj & Shabana) is the highlight of the show and their love story would be different and not a regular one like seen in all other serials. The show will also explore mindset and class conflict of two different personalities 'Akhilandeshwari' (Priya Raman) and 'Parvathi' (Shabana).[1] It has a great TRP in Zee Tamil Channel and currently stands at No.1 position. Sembaruthi has successfully completed 100th episode on 5 March 2018 and still remains in top position in the TRP ratings.

Synopsis

The story about a strong-willed woman, Akhilandeshwari and a weaker woman, Parvathi against the backdrop of class conflict, and how issues spiral out of control to affect relations. The love track between Parvathi (Shabana) and Adhitya (Karthik Raj) would be a unique one and stand out from other serials. Their marriage would be the plot of the story and how the pair faces the rest of the family.

This story is about a poor girl (maid), who marries a boy from a very rich background and looks at her relationship with her husbands family, especially with her mother-in-law. It is a romantic family drama, that currently airs on Zee Tamil. New actress Shabana was Selected to Portray the lead role (Heroine) as Parvathi. Office serial Fame Karthik Raj landed in lead role (Hero) as Adhitya in the Show. This is his comeback serial, after 2 years.Tamil Film actress and film producer Priya Raman was selected as one of the leads as Akhilandeshwari. Vj Kathir of Dance Jodi Dance was selected for supporting role as Arun. Narasimha Raju, and Dhandayuthapani was selected for a supporting role. Janani Ashok Kumar (Mapilai Fame) was selected to play Aishwarya, an important character in the story.

Title

This title was taken from a 1992 Chembaruthi feature film starring Prashanth Thiagarajan, Bhanumathi and Roja. The English meaning of this title is Hibiscus.
