The Sangha Supreme Council of Thailand (Thai: มหาเถรสมาคม; Pali: Mahāthera Samāgama; abbreviated SSC) is the governing body of the Buddhist order (Sangha) of Thailand, and is the ultimate authority for all ecclesiastical matters within the Thai Sangha.[1] Its leadership consists of the country's highest ranking monks, who consult the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand with respect to administrative and theological matters.[2][3][4] The Sangha Supreme Council was established on 1 January 1963, under the Sangha Act of 1962.[2][5]

  • Somdet Phra Ariyavongsagatanana, abbot of Wat Ratchabophit, member of the Dhammayuttika order, bestowed the title of Somdet in 2009, appointed Supreme Patriarch in 2017
  • Somdet Phra Maha Ratchamangalacharn (Somdet Chuang), abbot of Wat Paknam Bhasicharoen, member of the Maha Nikaya order, bestowed the title of Somdet in 1995, was acting Supreme Patriarch from 2013 to 2017
  • Somdet Phra Maha Wirawong, abbot of Wat Samphanthawong, member of the Dhammayuttika order, bestowed the title of Somdet in 2001
  • Somdet Phra Wannarat, abbot of Wat Bowon Niwet, member of the Dhammayuttika order, bestowed the title of Somdet in 2009
  • Somdet Phra Trirayarnmuni, abbot of Wat Debsirindrawas, member of the Dhammayuttika order, bestowed the title of Somdet in 2010
  • Somdet Phra Buddha Chinnawong, abbot of Wat Pichaya Yatikaram, member of the Maha Nikaya order, bestowed the title of Somdet in 2011
  • Somdet Phra Buddhacharn, of Wat Trai Mit Witthayaram, member of the Maha Nikaya order, bestowed the title of Somdet in 2014
  • Somdet Phra Buddha Kosacharn (Prayudh Payutto), of Wat Yanavessakawan, member of the Maha Nikaya order, bestowed the title of Somdet in 2016[6][7][8]
