From 2005 to 2008, she served as Deputy Chief of the Major Felony Bureau, which handles the most violent crimes and offenders. In 2008, she was promoted to Second Assistant District Attorney, and then to First Assistant District Attorney.

In her career as an Assistant District Attorney, Doorley prosecuted many high-profile cases. Early this year, she prosecuted Marquis Parker, who was convicted for his role in the shootings of two Rochester Police officers. Other notable Doorley-led prosecutions include the high-profile convictions of two corrupt members of the Greece Police Department, Chief Merritt Rahn and Nick Joseph. She handled the prosecution of Timothy Wells, a college professor who murdered his wife, and Jaquan Clark, a young man who robbed and brutally murdered four individuals in December 2008.

Doorley has become a known leader in the prosecution of cold cases using DNA evidence and has been successful in obtaining indictments and convictions on many cold cases, including the 1976 murder of a young girl in Rochester and the conviction of a serial sex offender for 1995 and 1996 murders involving sexual assault.

In January 2011, Sandra was honored by the New York State District Attorney’s Association with the Robert M. Morgenthau Award in recognition for her professional accomplishments, honesty, integrity and commitment to the fair and ethical administration of justice. The award recognizes one assistant district attorney from four regions of the state whose professional accomplishments, honesty, integrity and commitment to justice exemplify Mr. Morgenthau’s high standards during his tenure as New York County’s District Attorney.

In November 2011, Doorley was elected Monroe County District Attorney defeating Republican candidate Bill Taylor. Doorley garnered almost 60% of the vote and over 78,000 individual votes.[1] She was sworn in on December 30, 2011 at the Rochester Girls and Boys Club. She became the first female to hold the office of District Attorney in Monroe County. Michael Charles Green (whom she succeeded) joined Doorley's office as an advisor [2] but left in February 2012 for another position. In 2015, Doorley switched her party affiliation to the GOP, and was reelected later that year in an election where she was essentially unopposed. De[3]
