The SIC Racing Team is a Malaysian Grand Prix motorcycle racing team owned by the Sepang International Circuit. The team's main objective is to groom Malaysian riders.[1] For the 2018 season the team is competing in the Moto3 and Moto2 World Championships.
The team made its debut in the 2014 season, competing in the Moto2 category as Caterham Moto2, as part of the Caterham Group. The team finished in third place in the manufacturers' championship. The team became the Sepang International Circuit Team in the 2015 season, competing in the Moto3 category.
In October 2017 the team announced that it will continue with in Moto3 and would also expand into Moto2 in a collaboration between Sepang International Circuit and Petronas with Hafizh Syahrin as their Moto2 rider.[2] In December 2017 SIC officials announced that Petronas will not sponsor Hafizh Syahrin but the rider would still race for SIC in Moto2,[3] however, following Jonas Folger’s decision to withdraw from MotoGP, SIC replaced Syahrin with Zulfahmi Khairuddin to allow Syahrin to race in MotoGP with Monster Yamaha Tech3.[4][5] Khairuddin was replaced by Finnish rider Niki Tuuli after the 2018 Spanish Grand Prix.[1]
In July 2018 it was announced that SIC Racing Team will take over will take over the two MotoGP entries of the Ángel Nieto Team for the 2019 MotoGP season[6] Yamaha agreed to lease Yamaha YZR-M1 motorcycles to the team for the 2019, 2020 and 2021 MotoGP seasons.[7] Their 2019 riders will be Fabio Quartararo and Franco Morbidelli.[8]
