Sławomir Cenckiewicz

Sławomir Cenckiewicz (born 1971) is a Polish historian and journalist. A former employee of the Institute of National Remembrance, he is currently the main historical consultant of the Wprost weekly. He gained much media attention following the 2008 by scientific publication (co-work with doktor Piotr Gontarczyk) - book "SB a Lech Wałęsa. Przyczynek do biografii" (SB and Lech Wałęsa. Contribution to biography), about Lech Wałęsa as an informant of the communist Służba Bezpieczeństwa.[1] In their work, Dr. Gontarczyk and Dr. Cenckiewicz argued that in the 1970s, the NSZZ Solidarność leader and former President of Poland Lech Wałęsa was a secret informant of the Polish communist secret police Służba Bezpieczeństwa (SB).[2]

He graduated from the Historical Faculty of the Uniwersytet Gdański. His main fields of expertise are the modern history of Poland, including the opposition in the communist Poland and the migrant Polonia. He was habilitated as a doctor of history by the Uniwersytet Kardynała Stefana Wyszyńskiego w Warszawie.


He took part in London-based Polonia Aid Foundation Trust (2000 and 2004), Kościuszko Foundation (2000) and Chicago-based Foundation for Free Speech (2005).[3]
