Rusmir Cviko (born 2 January 1972) is a Belgian UEFA Pro licensed football head coach/manager and former football player. Mr. Cviko is the former A National player Bosnia and Herzegovina and coach of numerous National Teams of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In his illustrious career he has won a number of National Championships and National Cups. He last worked as the manager of China League One club Meizhou Wuhua.
Club
Rusmir Cviko started his youth playing career at FK Sarajevo, a top league Club in Bosnia and Herzegovina (at that time part of former Yugoslavia). After finishing his youth career Mr. Cviko played for the senior team of FK Sarajevo from 1990-1994. In 1994 Mr. Cviko moved to the Belgian top level club Royal Antwerp F.C. where he played until 1997. In 1997 he moved to FK Željezničar, a top league club in Bosnia and Herzegovina where the same year he wins the Bosnian championship. In 1999 Cviko moves to FK Čelik from Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina where he ends his player career in 2000.
National Team of Bosnia and Herzegovina
Between 1993 and 1996 Mr. Cviko played for the Bosnian A National Team. During his youth National Team playing career Mr. Cviko played for the U15, U17 and U19 Bosnian and Herzegovinian National team.
Managing career
National Teams of Bosnia and Herzegovina
From 2004 until 2008 Mr. Cviko was a youth National Team coach in the FA of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 2007 Mr. Cviko became the coach of the U21 National Team of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He remained in that position until 2009. During his tenure at the FA he also served as the Head Scout of the A National Team of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 2014 Mr. Cviko held the position of Coach and Scout with the youth National Team in the Bosnia and Herzegovina FA.
Željezničar Sarajevo
In 2009 Mr. Cviko accepted the position of Manager/Coach at the Bosnian powerhouse FK Željezničar from Sarajevo. During Mr. Cviko's tenure at the club FK Željezničar achieved some its greatest successes. The Club was crowned Champions in the seasons 2009/10, 2011/12 and 2012/13. The Club also won 2 Bosnian and Herzegovinian Cup titles in 2010/11 and 2011/12. In the seasons 2009/10 and 2012/13 the Club was Runner-up in the National Cup competition. Mr. Cviko finished his tenure at the Club in 2014.
Dalian Transcendence
On April 21, 2016, Rusmir Cviko began to work as the assistant manager at Dalian Transcendence .[1] Due to the team's poor performance, among other reasons, the team sacked Ermin Šiljak in August 2016. Rusmir Cviko was named interim-manager of the team,[2] and he successfully saved the team from relegation.[3][4] On 18 December 2016, Dalian Transcendence F.C. officially signed Rusmir Cviko as their manager.[5] Mr. Cviko took the Club over when Dalian Transcendence was in danger of relegation and kept it in China League One. In the next season Coach Cviko ended his time at Dalian Transcendence and upon his departure the Club was in 9th position. Mr. Cviko completed his tenure at Dalian Transcendence in December 2017.
Meizhou Wuhua
Mr. Cviko's great reputation and great work in Dalian Transcendence did not go unnoticed and on December 16th 2017 Mr. Cviko became the new Head Coach of China League One Club Meizhou Wuhua F.C. Mr. Cviko will take the team into the new season in January 2018. In the China League One season 2018 Coach Cviko managed to get the Club to its highest position in history. In April 2018 Coach Cviko was declared as the Coach of the Month in the China League One. Only in April 2018 Meizhou Wuhua F.C. won 5 games in China League One which was hailed as a phenomenal success as the Club's goal at the beginning of the season was to avoid relegation. Current Club's China League One position leads the Club in the next season to China Super League and that has attracted a lot of attention from some Chinese Super League Clubs for Coach Cviko. He resigned from Meizhou Wuhua on 28 August 2018 but left the Club at friendly terms with the Club management.[6]
While at Meizhou Wuhua Coach Cviko once again proved what a great hire he was for the Club. When he took over the team in December 2017 Meizhou Wuhua first team was ranked 13th out of 16 teams in the China League One based on team value. At the time of Coach Cviko's departure the team was ranked 5th out of 16 teams. This was due to the team's great results throughout the season and the fact that during Cviko's tenure at the Club the team spent most of its time ranked somewhere between the 1st and 3rd place in the China League One rankings.
During his tenure at Meizhou Wuhua Coach Cviko broke some records as well. The team was unbeaten for 10 games in a row on its home field and won 6 in a row which is the Club's best result of all times.
