Rupali Ganguly is an Indian television and theatre actress. She became popular after her role as Dr. Simran Chopra in the STAR Plus serial Sanjivani and later as Monisha Sarabhai in Sarabhai VS Sarabhai. She was a contestant in the reality show Bigg Boss in 2006.[1][2]

Biography

Rupali was born in Kolkata to a Hindu Bengali family. She is the daughter of acclaimed director Anil Ganguly, who made films like Kora Kagaz (1974) and Tapasya (1976).[3] In one of the reunion interviews, Sumeet Raghavan disclosed that she is a Maharashtrian as well. She started acting when she was 7 years old with a role in the film Saaheb, following it up with an award winning performance in her father's film, Balidan. Her latest TV serials include the comedy serial on Star One Sarabhai vs Sarabhai in which she plays the character of Monisha. Ganguly once revealed in an interview that her father didn’t want her to become an actor and set her school examination performance as a benchmark to allow her to act. She did hotel management and theatre before bagging lead role in television show,Sukanya.[4]

She has participated in dance reality show Zara Nachke Dikha, and Bigg Boss (Season 1) (2006)[5][6] and stunt/dare reality game show, Fear Factor – Khatron Ke Khiladi Level 2 (2009).[7] She also gave voice over in animation film, Dashavatar (2008)[8]

In 2000, she established an advertising agency in Mumbai.[3]

She has been a regular anchor of Bioscope; a films-based TV show telecast on national channel of Doordarshan. She also played in a New York Life commercial with Ravi Kishen.

Personal life

Rupali got married to her longtime boyfriend, Ashwin K Verma on 6 February 2013. She gave birth to a baby boy Rudransh on 25 August 2013. [9]Ganguly was left injured in a road rage incident on August 4, 2018. Ganguly's car accidentally brushed a passing bike. While she apologised, the duo still smashed her car's window pane and also hurled abuses at her. She lodged an FIR, and the police were able to track down the miscreants within a couple of hours.[10]
