Rendezvous (stylized as Rendezvous: The Playlist) is the fourth studio album by Nigerian rapper M.I Abaga. It was recorded in April 2017 and released on February 9, 2018 by Chocolate City Music.[1] The album features production from Audu Maikori, Chopstix, Odunsi The Engine and TMXO, among others. Rendezvous was supported by one official single, Your Father,[2] featuring label-mate Dice Ailes.
Production and release
The album was recorded in April 2017, when M.I Abaga and AnR gathered a couple of producers to work on the project. This project produced 2 albums.[3]
On February 7, 2017, M.I Abaga, in a short video clip, announced his 8th studio album, slated for a May release.[4] The next day, he announced the release of Rendezvous on a livestream.
On December 1, 2017, M.I Abaga released the album's first single,[5] his first in 3 years, Your Father (feat. Dice Ailes).[6]
Critical reception and reviews
Rendezvous received widespread acclaim from different music critics and blogs in the country. In a review[7] on Bella Naija, Black Boy described the album as a step up but not enough, giving the album a 7/10. Rendezvous has been characterized as an album that cuts across popular genres in Nigeria. A publication thenet.ng described the album as "a Decent Crossroad Of Musical Diversity."[8]
