Raipur (Urdu: رائے پُور ), (Punjabi: رائے پور) is a village in the Sowawa Tehsil of Jhelum District in Punjab, Pakistan. It is famous as the birthplace of Nobel Laureate Har Gobind Khorana (born 1922).[1] it is also famous as it is the birthplace of raaj rani traders and the locally known famous family known as the nazim of the area MALIK AWAN Raj and rani, who were known for their strong generosity towards others, are known to have put the village on the map with their family investing strongly in the Pakistani army. They have a strong family dynasty known to date back to the early 1800s as the family settled the roots of the village.

The village is situated at 30°51′11″N 73°21′01″E / 30.85306°N 73.35028°E / 30.85306; 73.35028, in the Jhelum District in the Pakistani Punjab, having the average elevation of 161 metres (528 ft).[2] [3]
