R104 (South Africa)
The R104 is a Regional Route in South Africa that connects Pretoria with Middelburg In Mpumalanga via Bronkhorstspruit & Witbank. It also connects Pretoria with Rustenburg in the North West via Hartbeespoort & Mooinooi. For its length, it is an alternative route to the N4, with Pretoria as its center.
Route From East To West
The R104 Route Follows The N4 Platinum Highway For The Entire Length Of Its Route, Passing Through Every City Between Middelburg, Mpumalanga And Rustenburg, North West.
The R104 Route Begins Just West Of Wonderfontein In Mpumalanga (East Of Middelburg), At An Intersection With The N4. It Goes West For About 50 Km Before Reaching Middelburg. It Is Joined By The N11 National Route From The South And By The R555 From The North-East And They Are One Road Passing Through Middelburg Central. At Walter Sisulu Street, The N11 National Route becomes The Section Of Walter Sisulu Street Going North Towards Marble Hall And The R555 Becomes The Section Of That Street Going South-West Towards Witbank (eMalahleni). The R104 Remains Co-Signed With The R555.
At Witbank, The R104 And The R555 Split. As The R555 Makes Its Way To Springs via Ogies, The R104 Stays In Close Proximity To the N4 Platinum Highway. The R104 Designation Is Used Again From Collins Avenue South Of The N4 Freeway In Western Witbank (By Witbank Primary School) And Remains South Of The Platinum Highway Up To Balmoral, At An Intersection With The R545 (Just Before Entering Gauteng), Where It Goes North Of The Platinum Highway.
Into Gauteng, The R104 Remains North Of And Parallel To The N4 Platinum Highway And Remains One Road, Through Bronkhorstspruit, Bypassing Mamelodi, To Pretoria Central.
At Pretoria, The R104 Operates As Church Street Through The Central Business District. At Pretoria West, The R104 Route Follows The M4 Magalies Toll Route (Which Was Previously Part Of The N4) Up To Hartbeespoort. At The Point Where It Meets The R511, It Enters North West. It Makes A Direct Line For Broederstroom.
At Broederstroom, The R512 Joins It From Randburg, Johannesburg and They Are One Road Through The Western Side Of Hartbeespoort. At Arrow's Nest, The Route Makes A Right-Turn And Crosses The Western Section Of The Hartbeespoort Dam (Magalies River) Before Meeting The R560.
At This Intersection, The R104 And The R512 Join The R560 Road To Become One Road Going North-East. At The Intersection With Scott Street, The R512 And R104 Routes Turn Westwards Towards Mooinooi. After A Few Kilometres, The R512 Turns Northwards Towards Brits, Leaving The R104 As The Road Heading West Towards Mooinooi.
From Hartbeespoort, Going Passed Mooinooi, The R104 Is Parallel To And South Of The N4 Platinum Highway. At Kroondal (Right Before Rustenburg), The R104 Goes North Of The Platinum Highway And Makes A Direct Line For Rustenburg. It Terminates At The Junction With The R24 From Magaliesburg.
