Praeglobotruncata[1] is a genus of globigerid forams belonging to the family Hedbergellidae of the superfamily Rotaliporoidea and the suborder Globigerinina,[2] which belongs to the order Globigerinida[3] Its type species is Praeglobotruncana hessi.

The genus name is after the early form of the truncated globules.

Its fossil range is during the Late Cretaceous Period.

Description

Praeglobotruncata includes species with spiral truncated cones, in a bi-convex and spiral convex form, its chambers were ovular and sub-rhombiodal, trapezoidal and spiral like, its inter-chamber sutures were straight and incised on the umbilical side with curves. Its opening were inter-marginal, umbilical, extra-umbilical, in a lower arc form and protected by a front opening. It had a calcitic wall, macroperfocated with low or high density pores, on all of the first chains.[1][4][5][6][7][8]

Paleoecology

Loeblichella includes species with a mode of planktonic life, of latitudinal distribution, in tropical and temperate waters, and pelagic numbers of superficial and intermediate waters (mesopelagic, lower to upper bathypelagic. in or under the thermocline).[2][8][9][10]
