Alfonso "Poncho" Nevárez. is a Democratic member of the Texas House of Representatives, serving since 2013. In 1999 Poncho Nevarez graduated from St. Mary's University School of Law. He won the seat after longtime incumbent Pete Gallego gave it up to make a successful run for the United States House of Representatives. In May 2017, fellow state representative Matt Rinaldi called Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officers on protesters.[1] He claims that Nevárez threatened his life during the incident.
Personal life
Born in Eagle Pass, Texas, he is the son of Alfonso Nevarez Sr. and Guillermina Castillon.[2] Nevárez is the first member of his family to graduate from college.[3]
