Pendli Pilupu (English: Marriage Invitation) is a 1961 Telugu drama film, produced by D. Bhavanarayana under the DBN Productions banner[2] and directed by Amamcharla Seshagiri Rao.[3] It stars N. T. Rama Rao and Devika in the lead roles,[4] with music composed by K. Prasada Rao.[5][6] Pendli Pilupu and Indrajeet released on the same day, both starred by NTR. This happened for the first time in Indian film history.[7]

Plot

The film begins with Anasuyamma (Kannamba) along with her daughter Radha and her brother's children Raghu and Madhu going to the seashore for Pushkara Snanam (a sacred bath), where Radha gets missed due to the mistake of Madhu. Anasuyamma scolds Madhu and he leaves the home. Radha is taken care by Siva Rao (K. V. S. Sarma) and his wife (Hemalatha) and changed her name to Anuradha. Time passes, fortunately, Anuradha (Devika) and Madhu (N. T. Rama Rao) study in the same college and they both come closer. Nityanandam (Peketi Sivaram), friend of Madhu plays some mischief by printing wedding cards in the names of Madhu and Anuradha, where misunderstandings arise between them. Meanwhile, Madhu's brother and his wife die in an accident. So, he goes back to his aunt's house and starts looking after his brother's child.

Anasuyamma's Lawyer Ranganatham (C.S.R.) cheated a woman, Simhachalam (Suryakantham) in his youth and made her pregnant, out of fear she rears her daughter Bala (Girija) as if she was found on the road. She meets Ranganatham after 16 years and asks him to show them some way. Ranganatham makes a plan to make Bala as Anasuyamma's missing daughter and keeps his assistant Bhagavanlu (Relangi) as a trainer to Bala, but they fall in love. Siva Rao has taken the loan from Anasuyamma; to collect it, Madhu reaches their village where he sees Anuradha and the misunderstandings being patched up. Anasuyamma also comes there and starts liking Anuradha. After coming back, Ranganatham brings Bala as her daughter and asks Madhu to marry her, but he refuses, out of anger, Anasuyamma troubles Siva Rao for the debts. Anuradha pleads to Anasuyamma to relieve her father when she puts the condition that she should forget Madhu. Anuradha persuades Madhu to marry Bala. Nityanandam, after seeing the wedding card, goes to Madhu and sees the childhood photo of Radha, he rushes to Anuradha's house and recognizes that Anuradha is actually Radha. At the same time, Bhagavanlu also finds out the cheating of Ranganatham and Simhachalam and starts abusing them, they lock them in a room and go to the wedding. But somehow, Bhagavanlu comes out of the room and stops the marriage. At the same time, Nityanandam also arrives with the proofs, where Anasuyamma realizes that her daughter is Anuradha. Finally, Ranganatham and Simhachalam are arrested and the movie ends with the marriages of Madhu & Anuradha, Bhagavanlu & Bala.
