Patna Film Festival

Patna Film Festival is an international film festival. Participant countries include Iran, Canada, China, Japan, Sweden, Germany, Russia, United States and India.[1] Patna Film Festival started in 2006. It was jointly organised by the Union ministry of Information and Broadcasting, National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), directorate of film festival, National Film Archive of India, Federation of Film Societies of India and the state government.[2]

1st Patna Film Festival

First "Patna Film Festival" was organized in the week of February from 11 - 18 of the year 2006 at Mona Cinema hall, Patna.[3]Shekhar Kapoor, Sudhir Mishra, Aziz Mirza, Shatrughan Sinha, Shekhar Suman, Manoj Bajpai, Prakash Jha were among the attendee of the festival.[4] A total of 24 films from India, Iran, Canada and China were screened during the festival. Bengali, Marathi and Malayalam language films were also screened at the festival.[5]Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi was the inaugural film for the first "Patna Film Festival".

2nd Patna Film Festival

Second Patna Film Festival was held in February 2007 at Patna.[6] The foreign segment of second "Patna Film Festival" had one movie each in French, German, Italian, Japanese and Swedish languages.

3rd Patna Film Festival

Third Patna Film Festival held the week of 5–12 April 2008 at Regent theater, Patna.[7] Participant countries for 3rd "Patna Film Festival" were Japan, Sweden, Germany, Russia, United States and India.[8] Taare Zameen Par was the inaugural film for the third "Patna Film Festival".[9] Bhojpuri, Kannada, Marathi and Telugu language films were also part of the festival.

2015 1st Patna International Film Festival

The organizers of Patna International Film Festival (PIFF) have launched a pre-festival campaign from 22 March in several districts of Bihar.

The campaign will start from Patna with screening of a Children of War based on 1971 Bangladesh war. Popular actors like Raima Sen, Riddhi Sen and Pawan Malhotra besides the film director, Mritunjay Devavrat, will be present on the occasion, said creative director and critical adviser of the event Raviraj Patel. Several other films will be screened in Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Bhagalpur, Vaishali, etc.

The PIFF, being organized by Cineyatra will commence at BAMETI auditorium on 16 April. Based on the theme a Ganga, Gandhi aur Balidana , it will be the first of its kind in the state. a We decided the festival dates in April as Mahatma Gandhi came to Patna on 10 April 1917 before launching his Chamapran Satyagraha. Prior to that, he held several meetings across the state. To commemorate Gandhia s Bihar visit, we selected the theme,a said Patel.

Fifteen feature films will be screened during the PIFF. Six of them will be from Sri Lanka. A number of documentaries and short films will be shown from altogether seven countries, including Sri Lanka, Australia, Indonesia, Japan, China, Nepal and Malaysia. The PIFF will conclude on the banks of the Ganga at Patna College to suit its theme, said PIFF convener Vijay Mishra.

Sri Lanka has been granted the a special guest countrya status with a festival country (utsav desh)a tag. a Both Bihar and Sri Lanka share a common bond since ages, especially because of Buddhism, which spread its route from Bihar. Till date, Sri Lankans visit Bodh Gaya, the seat of Buddhaa s enlightenment. Even the festival logo has the Sri Lankan flag,a said Raviraj Patel.

The festival aims at bringing filmmakers from countries having warm cultural relations with Bihar; "We aim at creating awareness among the youth of Bihar about the state as rich social and cultural heritage through films," he said.

The festival will be divided into four segments a Bharatiyam, Vishwachaya, Bihar in Cinema and Samkatha, he added.

Guest film makers in PIFF : Vimukte Jay sundare from Sri Lanka, Dhanushka from Sri Lanka, Bijaya Jena, Sanjivan Lal, Karan Baali, Shubhadra Chaudhary, Sudhir Palsane, Dilip Patnayak, Joshi Joshef, Kapilash Bhuinyan, susant misra etc.

First Regional Film Festival in Bihar Regional film festival 2016 at Rabindra Bhawan, Patna. Festival organized by Bihar state film development and finance corporation limited under taking the Art, Culture and youth Department government of Bihar. Guest film personalities in RFF- Seema Kapoor (Om Puri's Wife), Lenin Rajendran, Uthara Unni, Pawan Malhotra, Sandeep Sawant, Paresh Mokashi, Nandu Madhav, Sabyasachi Mohapatra, Atal Bihari Panda, Susant Misra, Dilip Patnayak, Ramkumar Singh, Gajendra Sarotriya Etc.That festival has been Coordinated and curated by Raviraj Patel youth filmmaker and writer from Bihar.
