Panesar

Panesar[1] is a Punjabi Sikh last name and is attached to one of the most prominent and prestigious castes, the Ramgarhia Sikh caste. They are descendants of Maharaja Jassa Singh Ramgharia. The ancestors of the Maharaja however belonged to the Tarkhan (universal caste of skilled craftsmen and engineers) until Jassa Singh Thokar updated the name to Jassa Singh Ramgharia upon becoming the leading warrior of the Ramgharia Misl during the Sikh Confederacy. Panesars have traces of ancestry to the Rajput Clan also. The densest populations of Panesars are found in the Punjab (region) of the Indian subcontinent in present-day India & Pakistan. Migrant populations include the east & west coasts of the US, other parts of the US, major cities of Canada, other parts of Canada, the UK, Malaysia, Australia, and Western European countries.
