Osmani Nagar Upazila

Osmani Nagar (Bengali: ওসমানী নগর) is an Upazila of Sylhet District in the Division of Sylhet, Bangladesh. Moynul Haque Choudhury of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is the first elected Chairman of the Upazila. He has been elected in 2017.

History

‘Osmani Nagor’ was named in honor of General Muhammad Ataul Gani Osmani, Commander-in-chief of Mukti Bahini (Bangladesh Army) during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. It was formed in June 2014 from eight Union Parishads of Balaganj Upazila: west poilanpur, Burunga Bazar, Dayameer, Goala Bazar, Sadipur, Tazpur, Umarpur, and Usmanpur.[1][2]
