Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki train disaster

The Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki train disaster was an alleged railway disaster that occurred in Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki on October 22, 1949. Due to lack of reliable information, the occurrence of the event is questioned.[1]

Events

The crash occurred when a passenger train between Gdańsk and Warsaw derailed,[2] killing 200 people.[2][3] The Communist officials never mentioned the event in Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki,[1] and the Polish authorities never confirmed the occurrence of an such event.[4]

The information about the accident was sent to numerous local newspapers, such as the Associated Press, Gettysburg Times,[2][1] Reno Evening Standard, Geneva Daily Times,[5] Reading Eagle,[6] The Singapore Free Press,[7] claiming that the reports came from an "unofficial but reliable" source.[6][5] Only two American newspapers published information concerning the accident.[8]
