The HR is a family of straight-3 and straight-4 automobile engines co-developed by Nissan (Aichi Kikai) and Renault. Renault calls it the H engine. There are two basic designs with 72.2 mm bore resp. 78 mm bore diametre. The smaller engines are available as 3-cylinders with a displacement of 0.9 l or 1.0 l, 4-cylinders at 1.2 l or 1.33 l (4-cylinders also with direct injection). There are rumors about a 0.8 litre 3-cylinder in India. In the list below the HRA2DDT is the only engine from this small design.

The below mentioned HR10DDT, HR10DE, HR12DE and HR12DDR are part of the bigger design.

DDT series

HR10DDT

The HR10DDT is a 1.0 L dual direct injected, supercharged, turbocharged, straight-3 engine that was anticipated for use in the 2010 Nissan Micra,[1] but was ultimately dropped in favour of the HR10/12DE and still-simpler HD12DDR/DDT variants, dependent on vehicle and application.

HRA2DDT (Renault H5Ft)

The HRA2DDT is a 1.2 L all-aluminium direct injected and turbocharged straight-4 engine equipped with lifetime timing chain, DOHC and VVT, variable displacement oil pump, Stop-Start and regenerative braking. It produces 85 kW (114 hp) @ 4500 or 5000 rpm and 190 N⋅m (140 ft⋅lbf) @ 2000 - 4000 rpm to 97 kW (130 hp) @ 5000 rpm and 205 N⋅m (151 ft⋅lbf) @ 2000 - 3000 rpm depending on the application. Renault brands for these engines are TCe115, TCe120 and TCe130.

Bore : 72.2 mm (2.84 in) ; Stroke 73.1 mm (2.88 in) ; Capacity : 1197 cc; 16v DOHC

It is fitted to the following vehicles:

DDR series

The DDR series include direct injection and supercharger.

HR12DDR

Nissan HR12DDR

The HR12DDR is a 1.2 L supercharged straight-3 engine, equipped with timing chain. It produces 72 kW (97 hp) and 143 N⋅m (105 ft⋅lbf). Designed for small-car applications, this gasoline engine incorporates a variety of technologies to minimize CO2 emissions while providing practical levels of power output.[2][3]

Some of the pertinent features are:

  • Compression ratio of 13:1
  • Continuous Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS)
  • Direct Injection Gasoline (DIG)
  • Miller cycle
  • Supercharged
  • Variable capacity oil pump
  • Hydrogen-free diamond like carbon(DLC) coated valve lifters and piston rings
  • Sodium filled exhaust valves
  • High efficiency

It is fitted to the following vehicles:

DE series

The DE engine series include naturally-aspirated engines.

HR10DE

The HR10DE is a 1.0 L straight-3 engine. Bore : 78.0 mm (3.07 in) ; Stroke 69.7 mm (2.74 in) ; Capacity : 999 cc; 12v DOHC. It produces 56.6 kW (77 PS; 76 hp) and 98 N⋅m (72 ft⋅lbf). Flex-Fuel, gasoline (E22) or ethanol (E100).

  • Compression ratio of 11.2:1

It is fitted to the following vehicles:

HR12DE

The HR12DE is a 1.2 L straight-3 engine. It produces 80 hp (59.7KW) and 110 N⋅m (81 ft⋅lbf).[2]

Bore : 78.0 mm (3.07 in) ; Stroke 83.6 mm (3.29 in) ; Capacity : 1198 cc; 12 valve DOHC EFI with CVTC technology

It is fitted to the following vehicles:

HR15DE

HR15DE installed in 2004 Tiida Latio

The HR15DE is a 1.5 L (1498 cc) straight-4 engine, output is 100 PS (74 kW; 99 hp) @ 6000 rpm and 134.4 N⋅m (99 ft⋅lbf) @ 4000 rpm.

Bore : 78.0 mm (3.07 in) ; Stroke 78.4 mm (3.09 in) ; Capacity : 1498 cc, 16 valve DOHC EFI with CVTC technology and is fitted to the following vehicles:

HR16DE

HR16DE installed in 2007 Micra C+C

The HR16DE is a 1,598 cc (98 cu in) straight-4 gasoline engine. It produces 110 to 119 PS (81 to 88 kW; 108 to 117 hp) and 158Nm torque @ 4000rpm.

Bore : 78.0 mm (3.07 in) ; Stroke 83.6 mm (3.29 in) ; Capacity : 1598 cc

It is fitted to the following vehicles:

DE engine updates (2006-)

Changes include:

  • neutral idle control achieved through the coordinated control of the engine in tandem with the XTRONIC CVT
  • introduction of alternator regenerative control mechanism
  • Reduction of engine friction by machining the cam shaft to a crowning mirror-like finish and application of a fluorine coating to the chain guide
  • Delayed valve closure timing of the intake, achieved through the increased conversion angle of C-VTC and superior timing management, thus reducing pumping loss when idling
  • Lower idling speed

The improved HR15DE engines were first used in Nissan Cube, Nissan Cube Cubic, Nissan Note, Nissan Tiida, Nissan Tiida Latio and Nissan Wingroad sold since December 25, 2006.[5][6]
