Nikhil Nanda (born 18 March 1974) is an Indian businessman. A member the Kapoor family, he is the Chairman & Managing Director of Escorts Limited, an engineering company founded in 1948 by his paternal grandfather, Har Prasad Nanda[1].

Early Life and background

Nikhil Nanda was born on 18 March 1974[2] in New Delhi, India. His father, Rajan Nanda, from Fazilka, was an industrialist and the Chairman and Managing Director of Escorts Group, while his mother, Ritu Nanda, works as an insurance agent for Life Insurance Corporation of India. He is the maternal grandson of actor-director Raj Kapoor, and paternal grandson of industrialist Har Prasad Nanda. His great-grandfather, Prithviraj Kapoor, was an actor. Actors Rishi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor are his maternal uncles, while actresses Neetu Singh and Babita Kapoor are his aunts-by-marriage. Actors Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor and Ranbir Kapoor are his first cousins.[3][4]

Nanda attended Doon School, Dehradun, and went on to study business management at Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, USA, where he majored in Finance and Marketing.[5][6]

Career

He was Director of Federal-Mogul Goetze (India) Limited from 1997 to September 2005.

He became Director of Business Development of Escorts Yamaha Motor Ltd. (EYML), in 1998, and formulated an agreement with Yamaha Motor Company to extend the corporation into the motorcycle business.

He served as Chief Operating Officer from October 2005, then as Joint Managing Director of Escorts Ltd. from September 2007 when he became Managing Director of Escorts Limited in September 2013[7]. He was appointed Chairman on 7 August 2018 after the death of his father.[8]

He was one of five Indians selected as the Global Leaders of Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum in Geneva, in 2001.[9]

Personal life

Nikhil Nanda married Shweta Bachchan, daughter of film actors Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, on 16 February 1997. They have two children, a daughter, Navya Naveli Nanda, and a son, Agastya Nanda[3].
