Nick Langworthy

Nicholas A. Langworthy (born February 27, 1981) is an American politician who serves as the chairman of the Erie County, New York Republican Committee. He has served in this capacity since 2010, when at 29 years old, he was elected as the youngest chairman of any political party in the state of New York, and in the history of Erie County.

Early life

Langworthy was born in Jamestown, New York, a small city south of Buffalo. He attended the Pine Valley Central School in his hometown of South Dayton and graduated in 1999. After grade school, he went on to attend Niagara University, where he established the university's branch of the College Republicans and served as its first president. He graduated from Niagara with a Bachelor's degree in Political science. He served as the chairman of the New York College Republicans, and travelled the state helping other colleges establish their own branches^[1][2].

Political career

Langworthy was hired by Congressman Thomas M. Reynolds as a district office staffer. Later, he managed Reynolds' successful re-election campaign. While working for Congressman Reynolds, he met his wife, Erin, who also worked on the congressman's staff. After Reynolds, Nick managed the campaign of and served for Congressman Chris Lee as his district office director until May of 2010^[1][3][4].

Erie County Republican Chairman James P. Domagalski resigned the chairmanship to unsuccessfully run for the New York State Senate^[5][6]. An early frontrunner, Langworthy made himself as visible as possible on the county and state Republican scenes. In a special election held to fill the vacant chairmanship, Langworthy unanimously won, becoming the youngest chairman of either political party in Erie County's history^[1]. Langworthy was the only county chairman to endorse Carl Paladino for the Republican gubernatorial primary in 2010, and emerged as a political powerhouse when Paladino won^[7]. Paladino's primary upset and the Republican overtaking of the Erie County Legislature lead Buffalo News chief political columnist Bob McCarthy to call Langworthy the "GOP's Young Elder."^[8] In addition these victories, Langworthy's chairmanship has seen countless Republican victories, including upset victories such as Comptroller Stefan I. Mychajliw, legislator Ted Morton, and Assemblyman Erik Bohen^[9][10][11].

In 2016, President-elect Donald Trump announced that Langworthy would serve on the executive committee of his transition team^[12][13]. Langworthy was a vocal supporter of Trump^[14].

Nick has been the recipient of many awards, including the Buffalo Business First 30 under 30 and the City and State 40 under 40 awards^[1].

Chairman Langworthy is the founder and president of his polling firm, Liberty Opinion Research^[1][15].

Personal life

Langworthy resides in Amherst, New York with his wife, Erin, and their child.

Erin Baker Langworthy ran unsuccessfully for the Amherst Town Board in 2017^[16][17]. She serves as the chief of staff to Assemblyman Raymond Walter^[18][19].
