Ng Cheeyang (simplified Chinese: 黄智阳; traditional Chinese: 黃智陽), also known as Zhiyang, is a Singaporen singer, actor and dancer currently based in New York City. Born and raised in Singapore, he graduated from Berklee College of Music and is pursuing musical theatre in New York, and a member of the American Actors' Equity Association.

Education

Ng studied Business in Singapore Management University under the University Scholar's Programme from 2009 to 2010. He chose the University Scholars Programme, however, as he likes to experience a range of subjects and develop his interests fully before choosing a specialty[1]

Ng transferred to Berklee College of Music, Boston, Massachusetts, in September 2011 and is currently pursuing a Bachelor in Music. He intends to major in Music Business and Performance out of the diverse majors offered by the college.

Music career

In 2005, Ng participated in the F.I.R singing competition organised by KBox. Out of the three finalists, he was the only male competitor. With F.I.R’s 無限, a single in their 2nd album, Unlimited, he won the competition and managed to perform on stage together with F.I.R at IMM Shopping Mall.

In 2006, he represented Hwa Chong Institution, winning the overall champion title of Season 1 Campus SuperStar, a nationwide singing competition conducted by Mediacorp.

After winning the competition, he was involved in numerous performances, including the Singapore Youth Festival Opening and Closing Ceremony in 2006,[2] where he performed the Theme Song ‘Reaching Beyond’; the International Physics Olympiad 2006 Closing Ceremony; and also participated in a Mediacorp Drama Series, Let It Shine (Chinese: 萤火虫的梦[3]) screened in January 2007.

Other than his acting experience and performing as a professional vocalist, some notable achievements by Ng included his position as Concert Director in Hwa Chong Institution’s ‘Get High! 校园演唱会2007’[4] and Concert Producer in ‘Change! 寻梦演唱会2008’,[5] both of which were Charity Chinese Pop Concerts organised with no start-up funds and aimed to raise money for the concerts’ respective beneficiaries.

Ng also set up an Events and Artiste Management Music School in December 2008 together with Chua Qin Nee and Angeline Gan Jie Ling. This Music School, named Gefang Music Academy,[6] aims to cater to the youths of Singapore, providing affordable contemporary Chinese Pop Music study.

In 2009, Ng represented Singapore in One Million Star Season 5 talent competition in Taiwan as a wildcard competitor. In 2010, he also performed as a featured vocalist in the Inaugural 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games held in Singapore.

He is also vying for a role on the next Season of Glee by taking part in Season 2 of The Glee Project in the United States. He is also currently a part of the a cappella group The Apex Project.
