Nexway is a privately held e-commerce service provider for publishers and online retailers of digital PC and Android products.

Founded in 2002 in France by Gilles Ridel, the company manages online sales and digital distribution for international publishers and online retailers of digital PC software products, PC video games and Android apps.

The company has 140 employees. It is headquartered in Nanterre, France and has subsidiaries in Poland, Morocco, Japan, Germany, Italy, Spain, Luxembourg, the United States and Brazil.[2]

Investors in the company include venture capital funds Turenne Capital Partenaires, XAnge Private Equity, CM-CIC Capital Privé, Idinvest Partners, and the French Government via its investment fund CDC Entreprises.

Customers of the company include online retailers Orange, Yahoo! Japan, Kurio, Softwareload, snakebyte, Best Buy, Pão de Açúcar and Amazon.com ; and publishers Kaspersky Lab, Adobe, Microsoft, IMSI/Design, SEGA, Electronic Arts, ESET, Disney and AVAST Software.[3]

History

The company was created in 2002 by Gilles Ridel[4] under the name "Téléchargement", which translates to "Download" in French.

In 2005, Nexway raised €1 million euros in seed capital from venture firms Turenne Capital Partenaires and XAnge Private Equity.[5]

In March 2007 Téléchargement opened a subsidiary in Madrid. In June 2007, the company raised a €5 million euros Series A round of funding from its historical shareholders Turenne Capital Partenaires and XAnge Private Equity, and a new investor, CM-CIC Capital Privé.[6] That same year, to facilitate its international development Téléchargement changed its name to Nexway. In October 2007, Nexway opened a subsidiary in London.

In April 2008, Nexway opened its Italian subsidiary in Milan. In June 2008, Nexway acquired Key Technology in Switzerland, which became Nexway GmbH to cover the German-speaking markets of Switzerland and Germany.[7] The company's revenue reached 32 million in 2008.[8]

In January 2009, Nexway acquired Boonty, an international specialist in digital distribution of casual games.[9] In November 2009, Nexway was ranked 13th in the French Deloitte Fast 50 with a growth of 1845% over the previous five years.[8]

In July 2010, Nexway raised 14 million euros in Series B funding from Oddo Asset Management and the French Government's investment fund CDC Entreprises with the participation of the historical shareholders of the company, Turenne Capital Partenaires, XAnge Private Equity and CM-CIC Capital Privé.[10] In December 2010, Nexway acquired CoGen Media, one of its competitors in Japan, to cover the Asian markets of Japan, China and Taiwan.[11]

In May 2011, Nexway opened an office in San Francisco to oversee its operations in North America and South America.[12] In October 2011, the company opened a subsidiary in São Paulo, Brazil.[13]

In 2013, the company's revenue was 120 million euros.

In June 2014, Nexway acquired the white label e-commerce business unit of video game digital distribution specialist Metaboli.[14] In November 2014, Nexway was named a 2014 Red Herring Top 100 Global.[15]
