Nenad Tomović (Serbian Cyrillic: Ненад Томовић; born 30 August 1987) is a Serbian professional footballer who plays as a central defender for Italian club Chievo and the Serbia national team.

Club career

Tomović began his career at his native city's major club, Radnički Kragujevac. He was then transferred to Rad, where he spent the majority of his youth career. Even as a young player, he was a starter for Rad in the Serbia and Montenegro Superliga 2005–06. On several occasions, Tomović tried his luck at Red Star Belgrade, but never got enough playing time which is why he always went back to Rad, where he was an established member. It is only when former Red Star head coach Aleksandar Janković arrived at the helm when Tomović received a real chance.

Tomović then became a regular at Red Star Stadium and played in almost every match in the second half of the 2007–08 Serbian Superliga season. Tomović signed a five-year contract with his current club. On 13 July 2009, Italian Serie A club Genoa purchased Tomović from Red Star for a 3.5 million transfer fee.

On 3 January 2011, Lecce announced it had signed Tomović on loan from Genoa for the remainder of 2010–11 Serie A season.[1] After the end of the 2010–11 season, Tomović signed a loan deal with Lecce again for the following season.

Tomović joined Fiorentina during the 2012–13 season in a co-ownership deal, where he featured regularly in both central defence and right back. After the season, Fiorentina purchased the other half of his player rights from Genoa and is now fully owned by the Viola.

On 31 August 2017, Tomović joined Chievo on a season-long loan deal with option to buy.[2]

International career

Tomović has played for the Serbia national under-21 team. He was also called up by coach Miroslav Đukić to represent Serbia's national Olympic team at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

Tomović made his full senior debut on 14 December 2008 in a 1–0 friendly defeat to Poland in a squad made up of mainly domestic-based players.

Tomović was forced to miss the 2010 FIFA World Cup due to injury.
