Namrata Shrestha is a Nepali model and actress, known for her roles in Nepali films including the romantic film November Rain and Mero Euta Saathi Chha. She is a National Film Award winner and is well known for her appearance in Nepali music videos,[1] theatre productions and modelling.

Career

2005–2007: Career beginnings

Shrestha has appeared on the cover of Navyaata Magazine,[2] Wave Magazine,[3] VOW Magazine,[4] and other magazines. She has also been featured in Nepali Entertainment portal CyberSansar.com.[5]

2008–present

Shrestha began her film career in 2008, and made her breakthrough playing Reetu in the romantic comedy film Sano Sansar. After the release of Sano Sansar raised her profile, she was cast for Mero Euta Saathi Cha (2009).

In 2010, Shrestha appeared in two movies. She had a cameo in the film First Love and as a sponsor in a short film for HIV Aids Awareness. Later that year she debuted in her first theater performance, Jalpari.[6] In 2011, she acted as the main character Carol in the theater production of Oleanna.

In 2013, she appeared in the Nepali movie Chhadke alongside Saugat Malla, Daya Hang Rai and Robin Tamang. Chhadke, directed by debutant Nigam Shrestha, got mixed to negative reviews, though overall the movie was commercially successful. Shrestha played the character Soli, an aggressive young woman involved in a local gang.

In September 2013, Maun was released, in which both main characters, including Shrestha's, are deaf and mute. Shrestha had training in sign language.[7]

In 2014, Shrestha was cast alongside Aaryan Sigdel as the onscreen couple for the blockbuster film November Rain.

In 2015, Shrestha starred in the film Soul Sister. Shrestha played a dual character in the film, and sang the Nepali hitsong "Bistarai Bistarai". Her singing was much acclaimed, though the film was a flop.[8]

In 2016, Shrestha starred in the movie Classic, again alongside Aryan Sigdel.[9]

Personal life

Shrestha studied +2 Science at KIST College in Kathmandu. Later she acquired a bachelor's degree in media studies.
