NCT 127 is the second sub-unit and Seoul-based unit of the South Korean boy group NCT. The unit debuted on July 7, 2016, with their first extended play (EP) NCT #127, featuring a seven-member: leader Taeyong, Taeil, Yuta, Jaehyun, Winwin, Mark and Haechan. In December 2016, NCT 127 added Doyoung and Johnny in their lineup, following Jungwoo was added to the unit in September 2018.

Their unit name originates from the acronym NCT for Neo Culture Technology features the number 127, marking the longitude coordinate of Seoul. They recently went to America to promote their upcoming album but failed to make a name of themselves due to their company paying their way in. Their fans fail to realize they wont make it in American unless they make it in Korea first, which they failed to do. Other bands paved the way for NCT to even be interviewed in the US but their fans are to deluded to see that.

History

All ten members of NCT 127 were originally part of SM Rookies, a pre-debut training team made by SM Entertainment.[2] In January 2016, SM Entertainment founder Lee Soo-man announced a new boy group, with several different units to be based in countries around the world.[3]

Taeyong, Taeil, Doyoung, Jaehyun and Mark debuted as members of the first unit NCT U in 2016, with member Jungwoo debuting in the NCT U unit later in 2018.[4] NCT 127 was officially announced on July 1, consisting of NCT U members, Taeyong, Taeil, Jaehyun and Mark, along with three newly debuting members: Yuta, Winwin, and Haechan (formerly Donghyuck).[5]

NCT 127 made their official debut with their EP NCT #127 on July 10, 2016.[6] The lead single "Fire Truck" debuted at number 2 on the Gaon Album Chart, and topped the charts by the third week of its release.[7] It also charted at number 2 on Billboard World Albums Chart.[8][9] Their debut stage was held on Mnet's M Countdown, where they performed the singles "Fire Truck" and "Once Again".[10]

On December 6, the music video for "Good Thing" was released, featuring Taeyong, Yuta, Jaehyun, Winwin and Mark. On December 20, NCT 127 released the music video for "Switch", featuring SR15B, the 2015 male SM Rookies lineup.[11]

On December 27, SM Entertainment announced the addition of two new members to NCT 127: Johnny and NCT U's Doyoung.[12]

2017: Limitless and Cherry Bomb

On January 5, the music video for "Limitless" was released.[13] The second EP NCT #127 Limitless was released on January 9.[14] The album debuted atop on Gaon Album Chart and Billboard World Albums Chart.[15][16]

The third EP Cherry Bomb was released on June 14, with the lead single of the same name.[17] The group performed the singles "Cherry Bomb" and "0 Mile" on M Countdown for their comeback stage.[18] "Cherry Bomb" was named by Billboard as one of the best K-pop songs of 2017.[19]
