Myung Film Co., Ltd. (Hangul: 명필름) is a South Korean film production and distribution company. Established in the Republic of Korea by Shim Jae-myung, the company has distributed films throughout South Korea since its founding in September 1995.[1][2] In 2015, film critics credit Myung Films for its contribution to enhance the development and industrialization of the Korean film industry since its inception.[3]

On 30 April 2015, it opened Myung Films Art Center’ and ‘Myung Films Institute’ at the Myung Films HQ building in Paju City of Gyeonggi Province. The Art Center comprises a movie theater, an art performance stage and an art project exhibition hall.[4][5]

The Myung Films Institute offers a two-year program which comprises courses for various movie theories, liberal arts education, and production practice. 10 students are recruited each year in areas of (a) Drama movie directing (2 students), (b) Documentary directing (1 student), (c) Production (1 student), (d) Acting (2 students) and (e) Cinema art - Filming, Editing and Sound (1 student each). The institute provides all expenses for movie-making, tuition and dormitory accommodation for its students.

The institute's first feature film In Between Seasons (2016) was directed by first-time director Lee Dong-eun who graduated from its first Film Directing major graduating class. In Between Seasons was screened in the New Currents section at the 21st Busan International Film Festival where it won the KNN Award. Lee went on to make his second feature, the critically acclaimed Mothers (2017) which won the NETPAC Award at the 2018 Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinema.[6][7]
