Major Mohommed Ali Shah (born 23 September 1979) is an Indian theatre personality and film actor. A former soldier, he is a member of the board of the International Film and Entertainment Festival of Australia where he has also won two awards.[1]

Early life

Mohommed Ali Shah was born on 23 September 1979 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. He is the son of Lt. Gen. (ret) Zameer Uddin Shah and the nephew of actor Naseeruddin Shah.[2]

Career

Army

Shah worked briefly at a call centre and then took a short service commission in the Indian Army as per family tradition.[3][4] As a young lieutenant, Shah was deployed to the Jammu and Kashmir Line of Control.[4] He was promoted to the rank of captain and was transferred on assignment as the ADC to the General Officer Commanding in the North East, which, at the time, was his father. Thereafter, he was promoted to the rank of major while posted with the Assam Rifles. He worked for Doordarshan as a television commentator for the fourth CISM Military World Games held at Mumbai in 2007.[5] His army service totalled five years.[3]

Corporate career

After leaving the army,[3] Shah studied marketing at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta.[4] He has worked with Genpact and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.[2]

Film career

Among the films in which Shah has acted are Sriram Raghavan's Agent Vinod,[3] Vishal Bhardwaj's Haider and Tigmanshu Dhulia's Yaara.[4] He has acted in a film based on the life of Majaz Lucknawi and played a central character on the Doordarshan National television series, Dil Aashna Hai. He has featured in an advertisement. He won the " Best Actor" award for an English film at the 4th Delhi International Film Festival.[7]

Personal life

In 2012, Shah helped campaign against a private airline's gross misconduct to prove a point that customers are aware of their rights.[12]
