Miss World Philippines is a beauty pageant in the Philippines that selects the country's representative to the Miss World contest, one of the Big Four international beauty pageants.

The pageant also selects three other representatives to participate in minor international pageants such as Reina Hispanoamericana, Miss Eco International, and Miss Multinational. In addition the organizer of the pageant also held its male counterpart Mister World Philippines to pick representatives to participate in Mister World, Mister Supranational, Mister Eco International, and Mister Multinational.

The pageant is inspired by the Miss World Ltd.'s slogan "Beauty with a Purpose" and henceforth adopted the theme "Beauty in Giving."

The winner and her court work with charities that benefit children in need and also join movements of supporting women and children's rights and many more advocacies.[1]

History

The pageant was conceived on January 25, 2011 when the franchise that was previously held by Binibining Pilipinas was awarded by Julia Morley, Chair and CEO of Miss World Limited, to Cory Quirino, who served as the exclusive licensee and national director for the Philippines from 2011 to 2016.[2] The pageant was officially launched on March 23, 2011 at the SMDC Showroom at the SM Mall of Asia.[3][4][5]

Quirino resigned as the national director on January 15, 2017, due to personal and business reasons.[6] A day later, Arnold Vegafria, who served as the talent manager of Miss World 2013 Megan Young, took over the position after he met with Morley. Under Vegafria's term, three additional minor international beauty pageant titles are awarded namely: Reina Hispanoamericana - Filipinas, Miss Eco Philippines, and Miss Multinational Philippines for which they will represent the Philippines internationally.[7][8]

Prior to Miss World Philippines, the title was awarded through the Miss Republic of the Philippines pageant from 1966 to 1976, then by Mutya ng Pilipinas, Inc. through Mutya ng Pilipinas pageant from 1977 to 1991, and Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. through the Binibining Pilipinas pageant from 1992 to 2010.[9]

Aside from Miss World, the organization of Miss World Philippines also appoints the representative of the Philippines to the Mister World pageant which is held every two years.

The first Mister World representative under Miss World Philippines is Andrew James Penaflorida Wolff who placed first runner-up in the Mister World 2012 pageant. In 2014, two contenders were appointed as representatives, John de Lara Spainhour for the 2014 edition and Sam Valdes Ajdani for the 2016 edition.[16]

Under the new directorship of Vegafria, in 2018, the Mister World representative for the first time will be selected via Mister World Philippines contest instead of appointment.

Aside from Mister World, the contest will also select the representative to Mister Supranational, Mister Eco International, and Mister Multinational.

Theme song

The Miss World Philippines official theme song was launched in the first edition of the pageant as opening number for the Miss World Philippines 2011.

The music, lyrics, and arrangement was created by Louie Ocampo and was sung by Mark Bautista (on year 2011), Julie Anne San Jose, Frencheska Farr, and Maricris Garcia (on year 2014).

After a change in the directorship of the pageant, a new theme song was composed and written by R&B artists Jay R and Kris Lawrence for the 2017 pageant.
