Early life

He was born in Vedulla Cheruvu village of Renigunta Mandal, Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh.[3] His father Merlapaka Murali was a prominent Telugu novelist and a contemporary of Yandamuri Veerendranath.[1] He was fond of Che Guera, so he named his son after him. But the villagers felt difficult to pronounce his name, so he changed the name to Gandhi at the age of five years. He studied in Tirupati till his tenth standard. He moved to Allagadda to complete his B.Tech.

Film career

He wanted to become a film director since 10th standard. After his engineering, he convinced his father to join Cinematography course in L. V. Prasad film institute in Chennai. Instead, he pursued direction course there. Later on he started writing stories and directed a short film. Having got good response upon its release online, he then started developing the script for Venkatadri Express which was his debut film as a director.
