Meridionalism (Italian: meridionalismo) is the study and research, started in the XIX century and developed over the XX century, of the economical and social issues of Southern Italy, started right after the Unification of Italy. The study of these issues wasn't only meant for theoretical research, but also to find a solution and to bridge the economical, social and cultural gap between North Italy and South Italy.[1] The scholars and achademics who carried out research in this field are referred to as "Meridionalists" (Italian: meridionalisti).[2]
