Mentiri, also known as Kampong Mentiri (Malay: Kampung Mentiri), is a village in Brunei-Muara District, Brunei. It is one of the villages under the mukim or subdistrict of the same name. The current village head is Bujang bin Sabtu.[1] Mentiri has an area of 322.29 hectares (796.4 acres).[2] In 2012, it had a population of 1,121.[3] It is also a designated postcode area with the postcode BU1929.[4]

Geography

Mentiri is located in the northeastern part of Brunei-Muara District. It borders the village subdivisions of Sungai Buloh to the north, Batu Marang to the northeast, Mentiri National Housing Area 'B' to the east, Pangkalan Sibabau to the southeast, Sungai Besar to the south and Panchor to the west.[5]

Infrastructure

Primary education is available in Mentiri and provided in Mentiri Primary School, a government school. There is also a primary religious school, Pengiran Anak Puteri 'Azemah Ni'matul Bolkiah Religious School, which provides primary religious education for the resident Muslim pupils.

Kampong Mentiri Mosque caters the need for the Muslim residents for Islamic congregational activities, in particular Jumu'ah or weekly Friday prayers. It was completed in 1983 and can accommodate 600 worshippers.[6]
