On September 27, 2018, the CRTC issued call applications to operate new operate a new commercial FM radio station to serve North Bay, Ontario. Vista Broadcast Group, the owner of CFXN-FM North Bay submitted an application to operate a new FM station in North Bay on the frequency of 90.5 MHz. [2] No formats had been announced for the new proposed station, however, according to the Facebook group page Canadian Radio News, the format may be country as there hasn't been a country music station on FM in the North Bay market since CKAT on 101.9 FM moved to AM 600 to replace CFCH, which made 101.9 FM a rock station adopting the current callsign CKFX-FM in the 1990s.

TV
North Bay is home to one television station which is locally licensed, CKNY-TV. However, that station effectively acts as a satellite of Sudbury's CICI-TV as part of the CTV Northern Ontario system — the station's only direct local production is a brief local news insert which airs as part of regional newscasts produced at the Sudbury station.
The city formerly also had its own CBC Television affiliate, CHNB-TV. However, that station was acquired directly by the CBC in 2002, and became a straight analogue rebroadcaster of CBLT-DT from Toronto; the repeater would close down on July 31, 2012, due to budget cuts.
The North Bay area is not designated as a mandatory market for digital television conversion, so the majority of stations broadcast in analogue.

Internet
In part due to the news cutbacks at CTV Northern Ontario in the early 2000s, several web media outlets have also emerged to provide local news coverage to North Bay. These include BayToday,[4] North Bay Nipissing News [5] and NBTV,[6] and alternative media outlets such as Solvent Magazine[7] and North Bay Scene.[8]
