Md Shafeenul Islam is a Bangladesh Army General and present Director General of Border Guards Bangladesh.[1]

Early life

Major General Shafeenul Islam was born in 2 March 1966 in Joypurhat District, East Pakistan. He joined Bangladesh Military Academy on 25 June 1984. He was commission in 27 June 1986 in the Infantry corps of Bangladesh Army.[2] He completed undergraduate studies at the Defence Services Command and Staff College in Mirpur and graduate studies at the National University.[3][4]

Career

Islam served in the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq as an observer.[5] He has served as Company Commander in the East Bengal Regiment, Adjutant of EBR Battalion, GSO-I of a BDR Battalion commanded an Infantry battalion,two Infantry brigades and one battle group under ARTDOC. He has further commanded a BGB Division, a BGB Corps and served as DGMO of the Bangladesh Army. He was appointed to the Bangladesh Tea Board on 14 February 2016 as its chairman. During his tenure as chairman, he promoted the diversification of tea products including introducing pickles made from tea in the Bangladesh Tea Expo. He was appointed the Director General of Border Guards Bangladesh in March 2018 replacing Major General Abul Hossain. Major General Md Jahangir Al Mustahidur Rahman was appointed the new chairman of Bangladesh Tea Board.[3][6]
