Maya Maschindra is a 1975 Telugu mythological film, produced by Pinjala Subba Rao under the P.S.R. Pictures banner[2] and directed by Babu Bhai Mistry.[3] It stars N. T. Rama Rao and Vanisri in the lead roles,[4] with music composed by Satyam.[5]
Plot
The film begins during the time of Kshir Sagar Madanam done by gods and demons for the nectar Amurtham to achieve immortality. First, Lord Vishnu (N. T. Rama Rao) in the form of Jagan Mohini (Kanchana) distributes it to Gods and deceives the demons. Knowing this through Sage Narada (Kanta), Lord Shiva (Ramakrishna) speaks ill of Vishnu and he says he cannot cheat him like this, because is the man who has burnt the lust. On hearing this, Vishnu again takes Mohini's form and tempts Shiva. Shiva loves the beauty of the lady and asks her to marry him. Then Lord Vishnu shows his real attire and heckles at Shiva. Shiva warns Vishnu that he will teach a lesson to him as he is offended. Goddess Lakshmi (Vanisri) argues with Vishnu listening to Narada that woman is superior, that's why Vishnu has taken a woman's form to solve the problem. The argument heats up and they want to decide who is greater between male and female.
Lord Vishnu takes an avatar of a sage called Maya Machindra and teaches everyone to recite God's name to get salvation. On the provocation of Narada, Lord Hanuman (Arjan Janardhan Rao) comes to test Maya Machindra. But he recognizes him as his Lord Sriram and bows at his feet. Lord Shiva takes the form of Gorakh and becomes a disciple of Machindra. Lakshmi becomes Tilottama Devi, queen of Kamarupa, who hates men and establishes a land ruled by women. On hearing this, Machindra enters Kamarupa. Tilottama cautions Machindra to be obedient to her. But her tricks will not work with Machindra. Finally, she turns as his disciple, marries him and they are blessed with a baby boy Meenanatha. Gorak comes to know regarding this through Hanuman and tries to take away his mentor Maya Machindra. Gorak arrives at Kamarupa, Tilottama Devi does not allow Gorak's attempts to become fruitful and also try to eliminate him. But Gorak succeeds in taking away his mentor along with him. When they are about leave, the boy's bondage makes Machindra come back. On seeing this, Gorak leaves a snake and the boy dies of its bite. Machindra tries to make the boy live, but he loses his powers due to physical bondage. Here, Gorak arrogantly criticizes Machindra and Tilottama, then Machindra asks him to try, but he too fails. Disheartened, Gorak immolates himself, Hanuman brings out his ashes and requests him to make Gorak alive. Machindra to tries with a true heart and he succeeds. Gorak questions why Machindra is not able to make Meenanatha alive. Hanuman replies that now it is his turn, but he says that he is incapable, then Hanuman says his entire strength and power is his mentor which he has forgotten because of his ego and arrogance. Gorak realises his mistake, prays to his mentor, takes his blessings and makes Meenanatha alive. All of them reach Vaikuntam. Finally, Lord Vishnu tells them that male and female are equal in this creation and humans must be spared from illusion.
