Maveeran Alagumuthu Kone (1710–1759) was an early freedom fighter against the British presence in South India. He was born in Kattalankulam village in Tirunelveli district. He became a military leader in the town of Ettayapuram,[1] and was defeated in battle there against the British and Maruthanayagam's forces and executed in 1759.[2]
Every year the government of Tamil Nadu conducts a Pooja ceremony for Alagumuthu Kone.[2] The former finance minister P. Chidambaram released a documentary film about Alagumuthu Kone in 2012.[3]
