Maulana Muhiuddin Khan (Bengali: মাওলানা মুহিউদ্দিন খান) was a Islamic Scholar of Bangladesh.[1][2][3] He was the guide of intellectual movement of Bangladeshi Islamic scholars, one of the leading religious thinker of the country[4][5] and editor of Monthly Madina.[6] Muhiudin Khan also contributed to the nation as a Mufassir, journalist, a poet, a prolific writer and translator.[7][8][9] He translated for the first time tafseer Maariful Quran into Bengali.[10]

Education

Maulana Khan passed Aalim in 1951 and Fazil in 1953 from the Panchbagh Madrasa. In 1953, he was admitted to Govt. Madrasah-e-Alia, Dhaka. In 1955, Khan received the Kamil degree in Hadith and in 1956 he got a Kamil degree in fiqh from the madrasa.[11][12]

Career

Maulana Muhidin Khan had a strong attraction towards journalism and literature since his student life. He edited Weekly Naya Jamana in 1960, Monthly Dishari from 1963 to 1970. Since 1961 till his death, he served as the editor of Monthly Madina. At one time, his edited Aaj (Today) receives high esteem from the literary community.[13] Maulana Muhidin Khan was appointed a member of the central executive committee of Saudi-based international organization Rabataye Aalame Islami in 1988.[14] Through this, he became well-known internationally. He is also a well-red writer among the Bengali speakers out of the country. He has been honored as a well-known writer in West Bengal, Assam, Tripura.[15] He was the president of Mutamar al-Alam Al-Islami Bangladesh unit, the founder chairman of the Jatiya Seerat Committee of Bangladesh,[16] the chairman of the Nastik-Murtad Protirud Andolon Islami Murcha, and the leader of the highest policy making forum of Jamiate Ulamae Islam.[17][18][19]

Works

The gifted Maulana Muhidin Khan played an extraordinary role in writing, editing and publishing Islamic literature in Bangla.[20][21][22] His contribution to the development of Seerat literature in Bangla is unforgettable. He gave the realization of the fact that Muhammad Mustafa can be a separate topic of literature, and it can be unique. Today, Seerat Literature is a rich section of Bengali language.[23] He has translated and compiled nearly 105 books.[24] The role of late Muhiuddin Khan in establishing the Holy Qur'an as popular among the Bangla speaking people is like that of an institution. His edited Monthly Madina's question-answer section has been published in 20 volumes under the title of Answer to Contemporary Question. Monthly Al-Madinah has kept millions of people involved in the basic elements of Islamic literature year after year. Monthly Medina and Maulana Muhiuddin Khan are identical to one another.[25][26] He translated the eight volume Tafsir book Maarreef al Quran of Muhammad Shafi Deobandi from Urdu to Bengali.[27] It is published from the Islamic Foundation Bangladesh. In 1413 Hijri, the King Fahd Quran printing project of Madinah distributed the Tafseer printing in one volume in Bengali[28] to the Bengali speakers throughout the world free of cost. Maulana Mohiuddin Khan is a successful translator Imam Ghazali's Ihyau Ulumuddin and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad's Insaniat Mawt ki Darwaje Por (The form of humanity in the face of death). His established Madina Publications has published 600 quality books from the year 1957 in varuious subjects including the Quran, Hadith, Seerat-e Rasool, history, tradition and dictionary.[29]
