Matty Blythe is a former rugby league footballer who played for the likes of the Warrington Wolves and the Bradford Bulls in the Super League. His playing position was as a second-row.

Career

Warrington Wolves

Blythe's career began with the Warrington Wolves in 2007.

Bradford Bulls

In 2013 Blythe was loaned out to Super League side Bradford Bulls for the full season. Blythe played in the pre-season friendlies against Dewsbury Rams and Leeds Rhinos, he scored against Dewsbury.

The following year, he featured in six consecutive games from the commencement of the season. He then missed an large chunk of games through injury. Blythe returned and featured in Round 14 (Leeds Rhinos) to Round 21 (Wigan Warriors) and also in the Challenge Cup against London Broncos. Blythe scored 7 tries in the regular season that year, which included a brace against Salford Red Devils. He signed a permanent 3 Year Deal with Bradford towards the back end of the 2014season.

Matty missed Rounds 1-5 due to injury. He featured in Round 6 (Hull Kingston Rovers) to Round 9 (Leeds Rhinos). He was injured for Rounds 10-14. Blythe played in Round 15 (Wakefield Trinity Wildcats) to Round 20 (St Helens R.F.C.) then in Round 22 (Wigan Warriors) to Round 26 (Widnes Vikings). He also featured in Round 4 (Oldham R.L.F.C.) and in the Quarter Final (Warrington Wolves) in the Challenge Cup. He scored against Wigan Warriors (1 try).

Blythe featured in Round 17 (Dewsbury Rams) to Round 23 (Halifax). Blythe played in Qualifier 1 (Sheffield Eagles) to Qualifier 4 (Widnes Vikings) then in Qualifier 7 (Halifax). Matty played in the £1 Million Game (Wakefield Trinity Wildcats). He scored against Batley Bulldogs (2 tries), Hunslet Hawks (1 try), Leigh Centurions (3 tries) and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats (1 try). However, Bradford were relegated to the Kingstone Press Championship at the hands of Wakefield in the £1 Million Game.

Blythe featured in both pre-season friendlies against Leeds Rhinos and Castleford Tigers before the 2016 season.

He featured in Round 1 (Featherstone Rovers) to Round 4 (Leigh Centurions) then in Round 6 (Batley Bulldogs) to Round 7 (London Broncos). Matty played in Round 13 (Swinton Lions) to Round 15 (Leigh Centurions) then in Round 19 (Halifax) to Round 21 (Whitehaven). He played in Round 23 (Featherstone Rovers). Matty featured in the Championship Shield Game 1 (Whitehaven) to Game 2 (Halifax). Blythe played in the Challenge Cup in the 4th Round (Dewsbury Rams). He scored against Swinton Lions (1 try), Dewsbury Rams (2 tries), London Broncos (1 try) and Whitehaven (1 try).

Return to Warrington

At the end of the season Blythe signed a 1 Year Deal with ex club Warrington Wolves.[4] He managed to get three games in the Super League that year, against Castleford Tigers, Wigan Warriors and Salford Red Devils. However, 'The Wolves' lost all three of these games. Blythe was loaned out to Championship outfit Rochdale Hornets on Dual registration where he played twice against Halifax and Sheffield Eagles. He announced his retirement having been released by Warrington.
