Mathru Devata (English: Mother) is a 1969 Telugu drama film, produced by Atluri Purnachandra Rao and M. Chandra Sekhar under the Poorna Art Pictures banner[2] and directed by Savitri.[3] It stars N. T. Rama Rao and Savitri in the lead roles,[4] with music composed by K. V. Mahadevan.[5]

Plot

Engineer Srinivasa Rao (N. T. Rama Rao) has a loving happy family with his wife Lakshmi (Savitri), mother Shantamma (Hemalatha) and daughter Latha (Baby Raani). Srinivasa Rao is even liked by everyone at his workplace and he is promoted to senior engineer. Sivayya (Jagga Rao), a senior mechanic is jealous of his success, so, he makes a plot to spoil his career. Sivayya uses his lover Gouri (Surabhi Balasaraswathi) to trap Srinivasa Rao and bring him to a railway track where Sivayya tries to kill him, unfortunately, he himself dies falling under the train. But news reaches Srinivasa Rao's family that he is dead. The desperate family leaves for the city, but Srinivasa Rao is alive and somehow reaches Gouri’s house. There he comes to know the plot of Sivayya and Srinivasa Rao becomes emotional, and in that conflict Gouri dies. Srinivasa Rao flees, comes under the trap of a gangster Mohan (Prabhakar Reddy) and he too reaches the city. In the city, Lakshmi, Shantamma and Lata get the support of a police constable Dharmayya (Nagabhushanam), who gives them shelter. Years roll by, Latha (Chandrakala) becomes big and she falls in love with Raja (Shobhan Babu), a police officer, son of Dharmayya and their marriage is fixed. Sheshavataram (Relangi), who lives nearby had an eye on this family. At the same time, Lakshmi loses her job, so, Latha has to take care of the family, she performs as a dancer in a club where Mohan, owner of club tries to molest her, where Srinivasa Rao comes to her protection. When he drops her at their house, he recognizes his mother and wife, and takes promise from them not to reveal his identity due to the murder case on him. From that day, Srinivasa Rao regularly visits their house and takes care of his family. Sheshavataram takes advantage of the situation and spreads bad rumours about them. Meanwhile, Lakshmi becomes pregnant, Dharmayya and Raja also suspect her chastity, then Shantamma explains everything to Dharmayya. At the same time, Sheshavataram instigates the public against Lakshmi, to keep her honour, Srinivasa Rao comes forward and reveals the truth. Raja tries to arrest him, but at the last minute, Dharmayya comes out with the fact that Gouri is alive, the real culprit was Mohan and proves Srinivasa Rao is innocent. Finally, the movie ends on a happy note with the marriage of Raja and Latha.
