Martin Kinnear Haese (born 22 October 1965) is the Lord Mayor of Adelaide in South Australia since 2014. Haese is an educator and an entrepreneur, who founded the Youthworks fashion chain in 1993 and built the business into a national chain of clothing, footwear and lifestyle stores which he sold in 2005.[1]

Haese co-founded the Entrepreneurs' Organization in South Australia and later became the General Manager of the Rundle Mall Management Authority, a subsidiary organisation of the City of Adelaide, from 2010 to 2013.[2] As General Manager, Haese successfully launched public holiday trading [3] and built the case for a AUD$30 million public realm upgrade.[4]

From 2010 to 2014, Haese was the Chairman of the Bay to Birdwood [5] the world’s largest historic motoring event. He has served on various boards including the Adelaide Convention Bureau, South Australian Youth Arts Board and holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Australian Institute of Business.[6] He was a guest lecturer for the University of Wollongong and the Australian Institute of Business for several years. Haese was also the national Chair of the Council of Capital City Lord Mayors in 2015.[7]

As Lord Mayor of Adelaide, Haese drives a vigorous economic, infrastructure and community development agenda.

Notable outcomes include a partnership with TPG Telecom to roll out a 10 Gigabit ultra-fast fibre optic data network across the City of Adelaide and a number of investment partnerships with the State Government of South Australia into improved laneways,[8] tramways[9] and bikeways projects.[10] In December 2017, Haese announced that the Council had contracted to purchase a prominent real estate site on O'Connell Street North Adelaide, unlocking 29 years of inactivity on this key city gateway location.

Haese promotes strong sustainability and technology agendas culminating in the City of Adelaide’s Carbon Neutral Adelaide 2015 strategy, 10 Gig City and many Smart City initiatives. Haese was a speaker at the Paris COP21 in December 2015 [11] and continues to advocate that addressing climate change is both an environmental necessity and an economic opportunity. With over 900 hectares and parklands surrounding the city, Haese is a strong advocate for their preservation, beautification, maintenance and enjoyment. Haese presides over the Council Chamber, the Adelaide Park Lands Authority and a number of boards and committees. He is the Patron or Vice Patron of a large number of organisations and the Co-Chair of the City of Adelaide's Reconcilliation Committee. As a musician, Haese widely promotes Adelaide as a UNESCO City of Music.[12] Haese is married to Genevieve Theseira-Haese, a Singaporean born marketing and communications entrepreneur.
