Marcus Alexander Browne (born 18 December 1997) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Oxford United on loan from West Ham United. He is a product of West Ham's youth academy. He can play in the centre or on the wing of the midfield.

Career

West Ham United

Browne joined West Ham at the age of 8 and progressed through the academy at the club before signing his first professional contract on 12 November 2015.[3]

On 18 August 2016, Browne made his senior debut in a Europa League fixture against Astra Giurgiu.[4] The game finished 1–1 and Browne replaced Gökhan Töre in the 75th minute. After making a tackle in the middle of the pitch, Browne ran for around 40 yards (37 m) before passing to teammate Michail Antonio before the right winger missed a clear chance to score.[5]

Wigan Athletic loan

On 20 January 2017, Browne joined Wigan Athletic on loan until the end of the 2016–17 season.[6] He made his Wigan debut, and what turned out to be his only appearance, on 29 January as a second-half substitute in a 4–0 FA Cup defeat to Manchester United.[7]

Oxford United loan

In July 2018, Browne joined Oxford United of League One on a season-long loan. Manager Karl Robinson said of him "He is technically very good, he sees a pass and will score goals so he is very talented and we know there were a lot of clubs chasing him."[8] In August he made his league debut as a substitute during a home defeat to Fleetwood Town in the second game of the season.[9] Browne scored his first goal for Oxford, a header, in a 2–0 win against Coventry City in the first round of the 2018–19 EFL Cup on 14 August.[10] His first league goal, a "superb solo goal",[11] came in a 3–2 home defeat to Accrington Stanley a week later.
