Manit Rastogi

Manit Rastogi is the Founder Partner of Morphogenesis (Company), an architectural company involved in architecture and urban design practices. Founded in 1996, Morphogenesis has been ranked for fifth time running among the World’s Top 100 Architectural Firms by Building Design Magazine, UK in WA100, 2016. Manit is a Fellow of the Indian Institute of Architects and the Royal Society of Arts, UK.[1][2]

Manit completed his Bachelor of Architecture (1991) from School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi. He went to the Architectural Association School of Architecture, London, where he pursued an additional bachelor's degree and Masters in Environment & Energy Studies.[3] Manit has been a director of Sushant School of Art and Architecture, Gurgaon (2009–2011).[4]

Philosophy and vision

Manit's belief in sustainability shapes all Morphogenesis' projects. With a local, socio-cultural response to design, the results are more often than not, passive solutions, which help to reduce energy and water dependence, with minimum reliance on mechanical means. He has successfully created exemplars that consume 70% lesser energy than established green rating benchmarks, without incurring additional cost.[5]

Achievements and recognition

The numerous accolades gained over the years are a huge step towards Manit’s vision of gaining global recognition for Indian Architecture. Having won over 75 International and National Awards, his is the first Indian Practice to win a World Architecture Festival (WAF) Award (2009) and the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) Getz Award (2014).[6]

Other accolades include the FuturArc Green Leadership Award (2011), the Architects Regional Council of Asia ARCASIA Awards (2014)[7] and five Indian Institute of Architects Awards for Excellence in Architecture. Morphogenesis’ work has been published in over 500 international and national publications including the New York Times and Guardian UK, and has been exhibited at various locations globally including Urban Islands (Sydney), Timeless @ Experimenta Design Festival (Lisbon), Gallerie ROM (Oslo) and the Royal Institute of British Architects (London). and this vadapav khato, pani puri bhelpuri खातो

Beyond architecture

Manit has an active involvement in education, research and pro-bono work on urban issues. He continues to sustain efforts towards reclaiming the Nullahs of Delhi and transforming them into a green and sustainable network.[8] He has also presented a proposal for rock-cut architecture for Amarnath caves, especially relevant in light of recent natural disasters there.[9] Manit is Founder member, Association for Development and Research of Sustainable Habitats (ADaRSH). As a member of the Technical Advisory Committee of Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA,[10] India's own Green rating system, and as member, Resource Persons Group on Environment and Ecology- Lt. Governor's Secretariat, New Delhi, Manit works with urban policymakers to spearhead initiatives with an emphasis on environmental sensibility and social welfare.
