His teammates used to see him as a wicket keeper batsman. He became quit famous in cricketing circle in Patna till he got too busy with politics in 1989. Once in 2007,while Pandey was State General Secretary, Bihar, Shri Arun Jaitley asked him about his educational qualification, Mr. Pandey told that he is a graduate . Hearing this Mr. Jaitley suggested him to study further and do as many degrees as possible. This incident inspired him to go for further studies. Political career

In 1987, when Bhartiya Janta Party was picking grounds across the country, Pandey joined Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the RSS. During this period he became involved in printing pamphlets opposing the government, staging protests and organising demonstrations. He also started going to RSS sakhas from 1988 and became a regular swayamsevak. He joined BJP in 1989 as a primary member from Maharajgunj and was made Member of working committee,Maharajgunj. In 1992, Pandey was elected working committee member of the party's Siwan unit, marking his entrance into full-time politics. He rose within the party, helping organise Shila pujan karyakram of Vishwa Hindu Parishad during 1988-89. He was inducted in Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha state working committee in 1994. Within a short span of time, he was made in charge of Saran zone, BJYM in 1995. Pandey always stood up to expectations of party leaders and this resulted in another responsibility as State Secretary, BJYM in 1997.As state secretary, he rigorously travelled across the state and was co in charge for L.K.Advani’s Swarna Jayanti Rath Yatra during 1997-98 . In 2000 he was made state president of BJYM.As state president he started a campaign against the then Lalu Yadav’s government “Jawab Do Hisab Do”.Under this party workers use to ask for the expenses done by state government for funds allocated by then Vajpeyee’s government. Failing to answer use to result in lock down of block development officers offices. This campaign was a huge success. Over 20000 BJYM karyakartas were arrested statewide. Panday got arrested twice first in chapra then in Muzzaffarpur. This gave him massive popularity across the state and party ranks. In 2003 he was made zonal in charge, organisation and later in 2005 he was made State General Secretary,BJP. Bihar. In 2006 under the Presidency of Shri Radha Mohan Singh he was again given the responsibility of state general secretary for second time. He continued in the office for another 2 terms in 2008 and in 2010.

BJP State President, BIHAR

When the whole country was getting ready for General Elections 2014, Pandey was given the responsibility of State President of Bihar’s party unit on 18 January 2013. This was the test of his capacity of performance under extreme pressure. After joining the office, his first dare devil approach was marked in State working Committee Meeting at Gaya in 2013. Wherein Pandey passed a resolution and officially asked the national president, Rajnath Singh to fight 2014 General Elections in leadership of Narendra Modi. This came as surprise to senior leadership as Bihar unit was the first to ask so. Election campaign in Bihar was started by “Hunkar Rally” on 27 Oct 2013 at historical Gandhi Maidan where a head count of more than 7 lakh people was recorded. While rally was proceeding, a serial blast took place killing 6 and injuring 108 people. Pandey made sure that all deceased were treated as martyrs and made statue in their respective villages. He also made sure that all injured are treated on party expense. Few of them are still under treatment. This generous act made him earn huge respect among party ranks and cadres. Party won with thumping majority in 2014 General Election and NDA almost did a clean sweep winning 31 out of 40 seats in Bihar. Another test was MLC elections of 2015 for 24 seats. Here too Pandey spearheaded a clean win over 13 seats. Failure in Bihar assembly elections is the only setback Pandey has got in his Political Journey.

Inter State Diplomacy

After becoming president, Pandey has always concentrated in gathering support for Bihar from the Bihari’s staying in different part of country. He frequently visits states like Maharashtra, Gujrat, Delhi, Karnataka and many others to gather support for party and state. A workaholic by nature, he likes giving all his time in building organization. Taking a step forward, he has made a “Pravasi Bihari Prakosth” in states which has significant Bihari population. This cell acts as bridge between native and immigrants of state.
