Maharaja Peshkar Sir Kishen Pershad Bahadur, Yamin us-Sultanat, GCIE (1 January 1864 – 13 May 1940) was an Indian Maharaja and a courtier during the Nizam's rule. He served as the Prime Minister of Hyderabad State twice, between 1901 and 1912, and between 1926 and 1937. It is mentioned in many sources that the Maharaja was very close to the 7th Nizam of Hyderabad- HEH Mir Osman Ali Khan.

Biography

The Maharaja was a descendant of Todar Mal, the Finance Minister of the Mughal empire during Akbar's reign, through Rai Mulchand, who was the fifth descendant of Todar Mal. Mulchand had accompanied Asaf Jah during the latter's invasion of the Deccan.[1]

In 1892, the Maharaja was appointed the pershkar (deputy minister) and in 1902, he became the Prime Minister of the Hyderabad State holding office till 1912. In 1925, he succeeded Nawab Wali-ud-dowla as the President of the Executive Council, a position that he held till 1937, when he resigned due to poor health.[1]

The Maharaja also served as the Chancellor of the Osmania University.

He was also an accomplished calligraphist, and a scholar of Urdu, Persian and Arabic languages, while also being a prolific writer.[1]

Knighthood

The Maharaja was conferred the KCIE in January 1903[2] and the GCIE in 1910.[3]
