There are two railway junctions called Madeley Junction on the British Rail Network, one in Shropshire and one in Staffordshire.

Madeley Junction, Shropshire

Madeley Junction is a railway junction situated between Shifnal and Telford Central on the Wolverhampton to Shrewsbury Line in Shropshire, England.[1]

The junction was controlled from Madeley Junction Signal Box until 2012, which was formerly located in the vee of the junction where the line from Wolverhampton diverges south towards Lightmoor and west towards Telford Central. Prior to its closure, a resignalling scheme saw its area of control extended on 16 December 2002 to cover Wellington, and again on 23 October 2006 with the abolition of Cosford, Codsall and Lightmoor Junction Signal Boxes.[2] This scheme saw the replacement of the traditional mechanical lever frame with a WestCAD VDU control system.[3]

In 2011 Network Rail put forward proposals to close the signal box and transfer control of its lines to the West Midlands Signalling Centre.[4]

Closure of the signal box occurred in November 2012. Madeley Junction Signal box was demolished on 17 November 2012 and all control transferred to West Midlands Signalling Centre in Saltley, Birmingham.[5]

Madeley Junction, Staffordshire

Madeley Junction is a railway junction situated between Stafford and Crewe on the Crewe and Stafford Line section of the West Coast Main Line (WCML) in Staffordshire, England.

The junction originally linked the now closed Market Drayton Line (engineer's line reference HCM2) between Stoke-on-Trent and Market Drayton at 7 miles 36 chains from Cockshute Junction, to the West Coast Main Line (engineer's line reference LEC4) at 149 miles 41 chains from London Euston.[1] The two lines were linked via the 25 chain Madeley Chord Line (engineer's line reference HCM3) from Madeley Chord Junction on the Market Drayton Line, to Madeley Junction on the WCML. The junctions were controlled by Madeley signal box (MY) located on the east of the WCML at 149 miles 74 chains from London Euston.[6] The out of use connection between the lines at Madeley Junction was disconnected as part of the WCML modernisation in the mid 2000s. Madeley junction now solely comprises a set of facing points between the Down Slow and Up Slow lines of the WCML at about 149 miles 41 chains. The extant junction is controlled by the Stoke-on-Trent signalling centre.[1]
