Madeleine Mary Harvie King (born 31 March 1973) is an Australian politician. She is the member for Brand in the Australian House of Representatives. She is a member of the Australian Labor Party and succeeded the previous member, Gary Gray, at the 2016 federal election,[2] increasing the swing to Labor from a nominal 3.7% to 7.7%, making Brand one of Labor's safest federal seats in Western Australia.[3]
King was born in Kwinana Town Centre, grew up in Shoalwater Bay and went to Safety Bay Senior High School. She was a solicitor before entering politics, and was also chief operating officer of the USAsia Centre in Perth.[2] Her family ran a drapery shop in Rockingham. She is the first person to represent the federal seat of Brand who grew up in the electorate.
In June 2018, King was selected to fill a vacant place on the Opposition front bench, replacing Tim Hammond.[4]
